Objectives of Consolidation

Specific objectives include:

  2. Enhance credibility among shareholders and capital markets worldwide
  3. Provide employees with more challenge and opportunities
  4. Contribute to local communities and global environmental conservation.

Progress of Consolidation

April 2000 Kawasaki Steel and NKK agreed to study mutual cooperation in transportation, maintenance and procurement at their four domestic steelworks, with the aim of enhancing operational efficiency at the adjacent steelworks based on their geographical advantages.
September 2000 The ultimate goal of the cooperative alliance is to further reduce costs, maximize competitive strengths and achieve long-term business growth in the age of global mega competition. As the two companies worked to expand their mutual cooperation programs in transportation, maintenance and procurement, they came to agree on ten cooperative items in the three categories.
April 2001 The two companies reached a basic agreement to consolidate their entire operations, including their subsidiaries and affiliates, on the basis of equal partnership and in mutual trust. The aim is to create a new corporate group with a strong earnings base with steel and engineering as its core businesses.

December 2001 The two companies reached a basic agreement for consolidation and unveiled the formation of the "JFE Group."
