Thai Gas and Water Pipeline Projects Awarded
NET-supplied gas metering station at the Maputaput power plant
NKK Engineering (Thailand) Co.,Ltd. (NET), an NKK joint venture based in Bangkok, recently received two successive orders to build gas/water pipelines and metering stations for local power stations. The first order is for gas and water pipelines for the Tri-Energy Ratchaburi Power Plant, situated near Kanchanaburi, 100km west of Bangkok. NET has been awarded the 118-million baht contract by Black & Veatch (BVI), a prime contractor for the power plant project. NET will be responsible for laying a 9.5km-long, 16-inch diameter gas pipeline, designing, procuring and building a gas metering station and laying two water pipelines (11.5km-long each of 600mm and 250mm diameter pipes). The work is expected to be completed in August 1999. Prior to this contract, NET also delivered this spring a similar gas metering station for BVI's other power plant project at Maputaput. BVI highly evaluated NET's engineering capability and performance in this project, which were conducive to winning the new contract. The second order NET received is for a gas pipeline for the Nong Khae Power Plant, located 150km north of Bangkok. The 62-million baht contract, awarded by Nong Khae Cogeneration Co., an affiliate of Sithe Energies Group, calls for laying a 5km-long, 12-inch diameter gas pipeline and designing, procuring and building a metering station. The project is scheduled for completion in February 2000. The gas pipeline will be laid near Kaen Khoi, branching off from the main of the Siam natural gas pipeline, which was constructed by NKK in 1983. NET was established in 1986 for the purpose of fortifying NKK's engineering and construction operation base in Thailand. Building on its abundant experience and competitive strength deeply rooted in the local market, NET intends to continue playing an increasing role in upcoming energy-related projects in Thailand in anticipation of its steady economic recovery in the years ahead. |
