NKK International (M) Sdn.Bhd. (NKI), NKK's Malaysian subsidiary, and its sister company Kumpulan Juruteknik Sdn.Bhd. (KJ), have been granted the ISO 9002:1994 certificate for their quality management systems by Det Norske Veritas AS Sdn.Bhd. (DNV), an accreditation body. NKI and KJ are the first of NKK's overseas subsidiaries and affiliates worldwide to have their quality systems accredited to international standards.

The two engineering service companies, based in Kuala Lumpur, had earnestly pursued the ISO certificate since September 1997, by forming an inhouse Quality Management Steering Committee. Under the leadership of the managing director and project managers, efforts were made to upgrade the existing systems to conform to the ISO 9002 requirements. Following strict audits carried out by DNV on March 30 and 31, NKI and KJ obtained the formal certificate, which is valid for their product and service ranges covering construction, installation and commissioning of pipelines, piping/mechanical/plant, civil and building, and other areas.

The quality control procedures and data management NKI and KJ incorporated in their recent multi-product pipeline project for Petronas/Shell were highly evaluated in the latest quality judgement. The companies intend to make full use of the benefits of the ISO quality standard in handling future projects, while enhancing credibility and efficiency in responding to customer requirements.
