Two indoor water leisure facilities that NKK constructed for local municipalities have recently opened--"Izumo Yu Plaza" in Shimane Prefecture in western Japan and "Kawane Fureai Spring" in Shizuoka Prefecture in central Japan.

Izumo Yu Plaza is an indoor water park built by Izumo City as part of its JR station area redevelopment project. Built on an 11,500m2 site, the leisure and sports facility provides the best in water entertainment for families and young people throughout the year. NKK supplied a variety of water attractions to its 2,702m2 pool area, including a flowing-stream pool 150m long and 3m wide, three Rodeo Mountain rapids each 19m long and 4.5m high, another slender water slide 110m long, a 250m2 wave pool and more traditional family and children pools.

Kawane Fureai Spring was built as part of the redevelopment plan for Kawane, a town noted for its hot springs. NKK was responsible for constructing jet pool and spa facilities in a European-style "barde zone" covering 1,487m2 of floor area. NKK's compact water purification systems were effectively incorporated in a variety of barde facilities.

Since launching its amenity development and leisure facility operations in the late 1980s, NKK has designed and constructed a wide range of water and snow leisure facilities. Major projects include the 30,000m2 "Wild Blue Yokohama" island-themed indoor water park, now in its sixth year of successful operation under NKK management, and the 42,000m2 "SSAWS" indoor ski dome near Tokyo, which features three ski slopes with NKK's unique snowmaking system to generate fine, naturalistic powdered snow.

Most of the large-scale projects that NKK has undertaken in the past ten years have been for private-sector operators. Encouraged by these latest midsize projects for Izumo and Kawane local authorities, NKK hopes to secure further contracts from municipalities for large creative leisure facilities.
