Marketing of Stainless Steel Water Tanks Expanded

Matsuyama City
NKK-supplied stainless steel water tanks in Matsuyama City

Water tanks are facilities for temporary storage of water, helping to provide a steady supply of tap water. Stainless steel water tanks have been drawing increasing attention in recent years, as they are superior in terms of their resistance to corrosion and earthquakes. In addition, since stainless steel tanks are light in weight, construction costs for the foundation can be reduced, and since paint is not required on the exterior or interior, construction time is reduced, while eliminating repainting work. Considering that these tanks are also inexpensive to maintain, there are great economic advantages available in terms of total cost.

Since chlorine added in water tanks to kill bacteria in the water makes the environment inside the tanks very corrosive, a dual-phase stainless steel is used for the upper part of the side plate and the roof of the tank. In the lower part of the side plate and the bottom, where the corrosive environment is relatively weak, SUS3l6 is generally used. By differentiating use by parts, the cost can be held to a minimum, and in terms of function, the result is a virtually maintenance-free water tank with an extended service life.

NKK has sold more than 60 steel tanks to date and, in terms of stainless steel tanks, it has supplied four units, including the No.l and No.2 tanks at the public water works in Matsuyama City on Shikoku Island, which are Japan's first all-stainless steel water tanks.

NKK's water tanks are made to conform to the specific design standards of individual water facilities. Responding to rising needs for large-capacity water tanks, serving wider areas and enhancing backup support systems, NKK aims to secure further orders for both highly functional stainless steel and steel water tanks.
