Steel monument unveiled at NKK's Tsu Works on its 30th anniversary

NKK's Tsu Works marked its 30th anniversary by inviting local citizens and business supporters to a commemorative fete at the works on August 27 and 28. The two-day event, which included an exhibition, a tour of shipbuilding yards, stage performances and a fireworks display, attracted more than 15,000 visitors.

As part of the anniversary event, a memorial publication, entitled 30 Years of NKK's Tsu Works, was published. Another attraction was an unveiling of a steel monument built adjacent to the works' main gate. The steel structure stands five meters tall and was designed by NKK Design & Engineering Corporation. Its vertical and horizontal angular shapes form a bridge and a ship, respectively, and symbolize NKK's lasting prosperity in these business fields. Tsu Works employees participated in the actual construction of the monument. Trees were also planted to commemorate the special occasion.

Located at the traditional port of Tsu facing Ise Bay in central Japan, the Tsu Works is the focal point of NKK's Engineering Division. It was established as the company's third shipyard in 1969 during Japan's high economic growth period. Ever since, the works has vigorously engaged in building high-value-added ships of varying types and sizes, offshore rigs and jackets, large-scale bridges, sluice gates, caissons and other steel structures, satisfying the industrial and social needs of the times. Today, building on its vast expertise, the works continues to expand as NKK's integrated fabrication yard.
