JP Steel Plantech Co. (JSP), which was established by integrating the steelworks plant and equipment engineering operations of NKK, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. and Hitachi Zosen Corporation, launched full-fledged operations on April 1. After agreeing to form a broad alliance in the steelworks plant and equipment business, the three partners initially merged their sales operations in April 2001, and have recently completed integration of their entire engineering operations.
Headquartered in Tsurumi, Yokohama, JSP is capitalized at ¥1 billion, with NKK holding a 34% stake and Sumitomo Heavy and Hitachi Zosen having 33% shares each. Yoshiyuki Fujiwara, NKK vice president and director for plant engineering, concurrently serves as president of the new 180-employee company, which specializes in sales of steelworks plant and equipment and engineering services in Japanese and overseas markets.
Aiming for annual sales of some ¥24 billion by drawing on the synergies of the fully integrated operations, JSP will strive to build a firm presence in the global market, providing customers with highly reliable products and engineering services in the ironmaking, steelmaking, strip processing and long products rolling areas.
