Steel Hold First Executive Meeting
An executive committee of top management representatives
from NKK, Kawasaki Steel and ThyssenKrupp Steel met on May 16 at NKK's
head office in Tokyo for the first time since the three partners signed
a comprehensive cooperation agreement in April. Under the agreement,
the companies will cooperate and conduct joint R&D and other activities
in the field of carbon flat steel focused on automotive steel sheets
with the aim of better serving automotive customers demanding global
availability of steel materials.
NKK President Masayuki Hammyo, Kawasaki Steel President
Fumio Sudo, ThyssenKrupp Steel Chairman Ulrich Middelmann and Vice Chairman
Ulrich Köhler attended the meeting and discussions included overall
cooperation strategies, exchange of technical licenses and joint R&D
themes. Working groups will be set up under the executive committee
to draw up action plans towards the alliance's goals of forming a global
supply network, developing innovative materials, such as high tensile
strength steel, and researching new coating and application technologies.
