NKK Receives Order to Install Two New
Compressors for Thai Gas Company
NKK has received an order from PTT Public Company Limited
of Thailand to build two gas turbine-driven compressors at PTT's gas
separation plant II (GSP II) in Rayong, 200km southeast of Bangkok.
The existing GSP II with a natural gas processing capacity
of 7 million m3 per day was also designed
and constructed by NKK in 1990. In an effort to minimize the plant's
operating costs, PTT decided to install two new compressors, a 4.5MW
unit for sales gas boosting unit for refrigeration. The units are expected
to start operation in January 2004.
NKK formed a consortium with NKK Engineering Thailand
Co. (NET) to land the full-turnkey contract. NKK will be involved in
basic design and major equipment procurement, with NET in charge of
installation work locally, using compressors made by Mitsubishi Heavy
Industries and gas turbines made by Solar Turbines of the U.S.
PTT Public Company is Thailand's fully integrated gas
and petroleum firm, which was established in October 2001 as a result
of the privatization of Petroleum Authority of Thailand. With annual
sales of 377,902 million baht in fiscal 2001, the company develops,
produces and distributes gas and petroleum throughout the country.
To meet the rapidly growing demand for energy sources
in the Asian region, NKK intends to secure further contracts for energy-related
plant construction and upgrading projects by maximizing its cooperation
with NET, which has vast experience and competitive strength deeply
rooted in the Thai market.
